What is this all about? An introduction

From the first house-viewing to the immediate future, I've collected golf balls that have landed around our yard—from 2021–2026.

Now, I'm preping an international move. My partner's already moved ahead—after weeks of co-prepping before they left—to start their job. I'm finishing up moving prep and getting the house ready to sell.

The thing is, we don't have any practical reason to keep a collection of hundreds of golf balls. It not only adds weight & takes space of an expensive move, but...what would we do with them?

Doing something with them

Ever since the collection started growing—there are a lot of people who are bad at golf—I wanted to create a data set of the collection.

Now that moving's nigh, I've got to actually do it or just get rid of them.

North Carolina is beginning to transition into a different season—fall and autumn. The weather is cooling in the mornings & evenings, still at 25–30°C | 77–86°F in the daytime though.

It's my favorite season transition (summer → autumn) into a favorite season (fall). Our backyard copse is full of trees whose leaves create spectrums of color; changing daily. Greens. Yellows. Golds. Oranges. Reds. Browns. The long leaf pine may be the state's Tree...just, our mix is much more deciduous.

The quiet changes. Leaves rustling on their branches, flying in the wind, falling with a collectively sonorous softness. Later upon layer.

So, this curious collector's gonna enjoy nature's seasonal transition outside while sorting through, counting, and auditing hundreds of golf balls—relaxing by organizing & arranging something I've wanted to do for a long while.

Enjoying the place's space during this Moment of Life; the calm before the storm of Change.

Entering data by hand

Next, I'll share how the "spreadsheet" design is turning out.

I'm doing it all by hand to start out with:

1. First, for the physicality of thoughts and impromptu journaling.
2. Second, to experiment with how spreadsheet should be structured before digitizing the data.
