ead (well, skimmed) this fascinating article about dealing with bot traffic on PatronView just now. Unlike Nick, at 4RoadService we do have our site on a VPS, so when the bots came for us it took us down.

I’m heading down the same road as Nick. Our audience is also in North America, so several weeks ago I turned on Cloudflare’s managed challenge for all countries except for Canada, the USA, and India. This made the difference between our site being accessible and not.

I have recently been toying with the idea of blocking data centre ASNs next, or at least excluding them from our internal analytics.

I’m bookmarking the article for when I need to go even further down the bot-management road.
