A jeweled wave Descends upon my yard Only waifs remain


ou are fortunate if you live in an area of the US not ravaged by Japanese Beetles. Having grown up in an affected area, I certainly consider myself lucky.

Some summers, they would completely coat the plants in our yard. Even when we set traps that filled to the brim, they were relentless.

Although I was in awe of their numbers—even as a kid with an insect special interest—these ones were no good. Looking at pictures of them still makes me anxious.
