Event: CSEE Institute for Teaching World Religions

I was invited to give a talk at a training session of educators on religious literacy and Islam.

Knowledge of the world’s religious traditions is vitally important for communication and understanding in our current world. CSEE’s institute brings together religious studies scholars and world religion teachers for thought-provoking presentations, activity sharing, and camaraderie. Participants will leave with new knowledge, new ideas for the classroom, helpful resources, and enduring contacts. Sessions will also include ways to incorporate the learned material into the classroom setting.

In addition to hearing from esteemed scholars and expert practitioners about best practices for teaching about world religions, this event includes baseline religious literacy seminars focused on a few religious traditions which are not explored in other parts of the Institute’s program. These “religion 101” sessions are aimed at supporting early career educators, and experienced teachers interested in a refresher, with basic information about the history, texts, beliefs, and practices of a few major religions of the world.
