Just Waiting Around
Kicking rocks, it feels like.
I was laid off from my job on June 1—but I have my regular pay through August 31 and an additional six month severance; I'm doing fine!—and have been mired in the job search, which has been...disheartening. However, I had a follow-up interview that I think went really well. That was a week ago and I still haven't heard anything. I've had something like this happen twice before and both times, the job ended up being canceled. I don't think this will happen now because the position being hired for is in a well funded department that is expected to grow, but all of this is giving me anxiety anyway! The other annoying part is that I'll have to move for this job, which is fine, but waiting to find out if I need to move is frustrating.
I'm writing on a MacBook Air (M4) right now and I really want switch to an iMac (M1). I want to bring back the computer room; I want an office to go to in order to do computer things. Partly this is just that I don't need to be on the computer all of the time and the laptop makes it easy to have open where ever. Partly this is to encourage me to have a place to work, rather than kind of not working and letting myself get distracted by whatever. But there's no sense in creating an office or getting an iMac if I just have to pack it up in a week or two!
