NYC-based Tenor saxist Ken Fowser packs a wallop with his team of Joshua Bruneau/tp, Matthe Rotker-Lynn/g, Steve Einerson/p, Peter Brendler/b and Mike Camacho/dr on this exciting gig at GB’s Juke Joint. Fowser’s compositions range from a dark rubato’d “BQE that goes into some tricky angles, to a straight out boogaloo on “Fish Walk” with the leader belting out heavy duty ideas. Brendler digs in with the horns on a modal “You SHouldn’t Have” and Rotker-Lynn delivers some tasty licks on “Samba of the Red Gringo” and the urgent “Simple Complex” with the leader crooning on a soft “A Lullaby For Morning” and swinging easy on “The Congregation”. Suitable for framing.
