I should really be getting an honorary engineering degree for this

'm a computer science student, and I just finished the first year of my apprenticeship at an automotive seal factory. Here's some things that are still pretty similar, for better or worse.

Similarities

  1. Turning it off and on again still works pretty often
  2. Check all cables/wires and keep the magic smoke inside
  3. Never assume someone else did it the right way / in a way that makes sense
  4. Something will either take 20 minutes or a week.
  5. There's no way that things worth $50k
  6. Some of the worst diagrams I've seen in my life
  7. Completely undocumented code

Differences

  1. Where did all this oil come from?
  2. Seriously, why am I covered in oil?
  3. There's a much bigger chance of electrocuting myself if I do it wrong
  4. I can draw about as good as an eight-year-old, and CAD slightly better
