Crowdfunded new gTLD applications
Campaigns for .furry and .meow successfully each raised over the $90k needed to submit their ASP-supported applications.
don't think I've seen these discussed on any of the main domain name news sites I follow but we could have a couple of new queer-friendly gTLDs after dotfurry.org raised over $160k and dotmeow.org raised over €120k. Both campaigns were supported by the ICANN Applicant Support Program which reduces the application fee from the standard $227k. After exceeding their original goal, the dotmeow campaign also confirmed they have submitted their application:
The dotfurry campaign haven't made any confirmation of their application but they did hit their target with plenty of time remaining and were rallying for support right up to the end so hopefully there were no issues submitting it.
Considering .cat is limited to domains with both a Catalan connection (and using the Catalan language) and .fox is tied up as a private dotBrand with Fox Corp, it would nice to have .meow and .furry open to the general public for any use.
