archiving my mixed CDs created over the years! i'll be uploading these in small batches going forward since i decided to sunset my spotify and move away from streaming services entirely, so these are just lists on a page...exactly the way i used to discover and build playlists before streaming platforms took off!

Notes: I don't exactly remember why it's called 'grapefruit' but, whatever, it doesn't matter. It contains a mixture of old and modern cantopop, citypop and other easy listening disco/funk tracks. Leslie Cheung (forever my favourite actor, and I really adore his music career!), Grasshopper, Earth Wind & Fire, and Sade are some of my favourite artists of all time, even though I don't talk about them nearly as often as I should!

Because I can't resist, I wanted to talk about Grasshopper's 怎麼天生不是人. Sadly I'm not a Cantonese speaker, but this loosely translates to "why aren't I born a woman?". The theme of the lyrics expresses frustrations of being unable to cry and express your true emotions because you were born as a man, and the sensual allure of wanting to become a woman. It's a really fascinating queer coded song in the scope of 1990s Hong Kong.
