35 years old now
Maybe the teenager in me that wanted to grow old was always right.
his month I hit my birthday number 35. I had a really long blog about the pros and cons of being old prepared. I just decided to delete it and wrote this instead.
One of my favorite movies, "Fugitive Pieces", has a quote that has stuck with me ever since the first time I saw that movie. It says:
I think it's incredibly deep. I like to think about it as: there's always two ways to see things, but you also get to decide which one you see. You either decide to pick the destructive option or the constructive option. We all are wood. And we all decide either to burn or to float.
I'm starting to feel it's the same for growing up—and growing old. Some of my friends are seeing the burdens, the challenges, the downfall of youth, every coming year. Myself, on the other side, I've chosen to start enjoying the possibilities, the acquired experience and maturing. It's not easy, you have to focus and the find the best in everything, but you can do it. The important thing is we're all improving by the day, in one aspect or another.
That's it. My recommendation? Be a young boy in spirit, forever, and see only the positives that come with being older. All the opportunities and the eagerness to grow up, do you remember?
And, don't forget, everyday is a good day to reinvent yourself.
