Where is Kazakhstan/Kersal?

t’s always a pleasant surprise to get a token Salford or rugby league reference in the mainstream, and Richard Osman’s House of Games delivered yesterday evening by asking the following question:

Which nickname for Manchester United was inspired by the name of a rugby club based in Salford?

Magic, both areas covered in one.

The last link back to Salford/RL I noticed on House of Games was Martin Offiah’s appearance as a contestant a couple of years back. This BBC2 tea-time staple isn’t the toughest quiz on telly, but the format can take a while to get your head around. Early in the week, you can certainly place contestants in one of two camps:

  • Seen the show before OR knew what they were getting into;
  • Haven’t seen the show before AND didn’t know what they were getting into.

Martin appeared to be in the latter camp. Not quite Larry Hagman on Shooting Stars levels of disorientation, but it appeared to take him a while to get up to speed.
