Yesvember!

Rather than being a boring ‘no-vember’, this coming month promises to be a more interesting ‘yesvember‘ with several things already in my calendar. Like a number of schools, our ten-year-old’s school is closed tomorrow for an Inset day (what we used to call ‘Baker Days’ in the 1980s after the government minister who introduced them)....

Like a number of schools, our ten-year-old’s school is closed tomorrow for an Inset day (what we used to call ‘Baker Days’ in the 1980s after the government minister who introduced them). I imagine we’ll end up at a cinema; we saw Forgotten Island a couple of weeks ago, but the new Laika film Wildwood is out now so we might watch that somewhere.

WordCamp Manchester

This Friday, I’m off to my very first WordCamp in Manchester. These are events for those who use and work with WordPress, and vary from big flagship events to smaller ones, like this one in Manchester. There may still be tickets available, but as of last week there only one or two remaining. I’m looking forward to it – like I said, I haven’t been to such an event before and it will be interesting to meet other WordPress users. Even though I only use it as a hobbyist, rather than as part of my work.

Thought Bubble

The Thought Bubble Comic Convention is back again in Harrogate, so we’ll be going there again. This will be our sixth time, and third successive year – our ten-year-old is very much into comics and manga. We’re particularly looking forward to seeing Sarah Graley again, and hopefully Kate Beaton.

Travelling for work

I mentioned in last month’s update that I would be travelling abroad for work again this month. It’s a very brief trip with just one night away in the Netherlands, to attend a recruitment event. Almost everything is booked – flights, hotel and trains to and from the airport in the UK. I just need to work out my onward transport once I’m there, and hope that I can handle the Dutch railway system.

I’ve never properly been to the Netherlands before. Last year, I had a stopover at Amsterdam Schiphol airport on the way back from Athens. But I’m not counting that, as I was airside the entire time, and never left the airport. So this will be a new country to add to the list that I will have visited.

Christine is also travelling for work this month, though not internationally – she has a couple of days in London coming up.

No new bathroom this month

We’ve also heard that we won’t be getting a new bathroom this month. Or next month for that matter – our fitter has now pencilled us in for after Christmas. That means another couple of months with a bath in our living room, unfortunately.
