almost talked myself out of this week’s playlist, especially because I was already “behind.” I kept trying to pick a single track to build the rest of the playlist around, and it just wasn’t working.

So I went back to what I normally do: pick 47 songs, order them, edit, reorder, repeat … until there are 10.

Roughly 243 edits later, here we are.

Some notes:

🎧 “Piki” – Young Miko
I looked up the lyrics in English. Oh my.

The first 5 seconds immediately got my attention. I love the acoustic intro, even if it’s only 5 seconds long, and how it slowly builds into Miko’s verse before the bass arrives.

The more I listened, the more I appreciated how the song lets each element breathe. The vocals get their moments, the bass gets its moments, even the lyrics have space. There isn’t a single part of this song that is repetitive.

🎧 “GAME KNB?” – Carl Angelo + David Ira
Game Ka Na Ba? → “Are you ready?”

I know very little Tagalog, so I looked it up to be sure I understood the title correctly. I did, but not completely.

There’s the literal meaning (”Are you ready?”), the fact that Game Ka Na Ba? is also the name of a long-running Philippine game show, and an additional layer: it also plays on the Tagalog word gamáy (“to have mastered a craft”).

🎧 “GTFO” – Doechii + Fetish
I like to think of this song as a pt2 of Luda’s “Move”

🎧 “Victory Lap” – Fred again.. + Skepta + PlaqueBoyMax
I started noticing a pattern. Lots of songs on this list start the same way - soft vocals, minimal production, some space … and then BASS

🎧 “Enemies (Phrva Remix)” – Gryffin + Bludnymph + Shift K3Y
Wubby stank-face goodness

🎧 “22h30” – Le Youth
debitah debitah debitah

🎧 “SYRINX” – Skrillex + RHR + Jesmay. + Lucas Swatch
It starts off gently, almost entirely focused on the vocals, before colliding with really aggressive dubstep elements. I like the juxtaposition. Earning that chaos.
