Standard Reader

Oh, hey, welcome to Chaos Pocket

Well, I just got my "your invite has been approved" email for Offprint, so here I am!

his'll be probably the 30th blog I've ever started, so we'll see how it goes, but the goal is to be a part of the broader blogging revival. You remember those days, right?

I'm pretty damn pumped for Offprint. There have always been more than a few blogging platforms out there, some of them free and most of them somewhere between freemium and premium, but Offprint really feels like a product I can happily support.

It does have a premium 'Pro' option, but the free tier feels pretty feature-loaded.

For now, it feels a lot like the Ghost platform, and to that end it even has a newsletter engine built-in!

Even in its beta form, it's overflowing with features and capabilities, and the fact that it's tied into the ATProto platform – and the associated standard.site architecture – feels like a big plus to me.

So, yeah. Keen to see how this evolves!

My wishlist for now is mainly...

  • Categories and tags. Long-term usability will be hampered without these.
  • A Heading 4 style (right now it only goes down to Heading 3)
  • A cmd+k keyboard shortcut for inserting links (or selecting text and hitting cmd+v)
  • The option to have links open in a new tab
  • Multiple lines for the callout box (I know I can just do some shift+enter line breaks, but still.)
  • Automatic upload resizing for large images (so that I don't have to reduce the filesize first)
  • Larger file sizes. 2mb is rough if I want to use this as a photography blog! Maybe this should just be part of the Pro tier, I dunno.
  • More storage on the Pro tier. I feel like I'd burn through 25gb...

On Chaos Pocket, I'll be posting about all the things I enjoy: photography, cameras and related accessories, along with all the pocketable gadgets and trinkets and tools that I can't ever seem to resist.

I'll also post about things I find online, such as new fave artists, movie and TV trailers, music, clothes, toys and models... all of those "surely there are smarter ways to use your money" things.
