Bug: Duplicate Margin Collection Created After Editing a Semble Collection
Margin and Semble Collection Interoperability
f you recently noticed me posting ,[object Object],, ,[object Object],, ,[object Object],, and ,[object Object], bookmarks in both ,[object Object], and ,[object Object],, this was the reason for that: I was testing and documenting a bug I encountered earlier so I can file a report.
I already deleted the test links and collections, and allow me to reiterate: I was not spamming.

Create a Semble Collection
- ✅ Shows in Margin
- ✅ Add link via Semble, shows in Margin
- 🐞 (Margin) Edit Semble Collection via Margin creates a Margin Duplicate with an exact ID
- Expectation: updates the Original Semble Collection
Margin Duplicate of a Semble Collection (same ID)
- ✅ Duplicate shows in Semble
- 🐞 (Semble) Selecting Duplicate or Original in Semble, displays the content from Original
- 🐞 (Margin) Selecting Original in Margin will open the Duplicate (which is empty)
- ✅ Saving links to either Duplicate or Original—from either Margin or Semble—saves it correctly in either the Duplicate or Original
On deleting Duplicate Collection
- 🐞 (Margin) The duplicate created from Margin can only be deleted from Semble
- Expectation: can be deleted
- 🐞 (Semble) Deleting the Duplicate from Semble will delete the Original first, including all links saved in it from Semble; links added via Margin are simply "unlabeled"
- Expectation: the Duplicate is deleted
- Only then the Duplicate can be deleted from Semble and will reflect on the Margin side
Create a Margin Collection
- ✅ Shows in Semble
- ✅ Add link via Semble, shows in Margin
- ✅ Edit Margin Collection via Semble the edit is reflected on the Margin side
What I was not able to test
- Saving a plain bookmark via Margin and if it will appear on the Semble side
It is currently not possible to save a plain bookmark (without an annotation or highlight/quote) via Margin web. Unfortunately I don't have access to a laptop/desktop to test via the Margin extensions. Also, if my assumption is correct, Semble doesn't display links saved with an annotation and/or highlight by design.
Final notes
I might have missed some tests because I'm deeply bothered I was spamming Margin and Semble. Each activity is displayed for everyone to see on both services, it does look like I'm spamming (two sites). 😆
In addition, if the Duplicate Collection bug is fixed, I think most the other bugs won't matter since it's all tied into that.
