Apple Announces the iPhone 18 Pro & A20 Pro
n Wednesday during Apple's "Surprise and Shine" Keynote they announced the new iPhone 18 Pro (and Pro Mox) featuring the new A20 Pro and four beautiful colors. Burgundy, Glacier, Silver & Black.
The iPhone 18 Pro will also feature a new vapor chamber cooling system that has 3x surface area compared to the one in the iPhone 17 Pro. The vapor chamber uses 80% recycled stainless steel and paired with more thermally conducive graphite. The iPhone will also feature a industry-first Nanotwin Cooper material designed to move heat away from the display.
Apple Claims the iPhone 18 Pro (A20 Pro) is 40% faster than the iPhone 17 Pro (A19 Pro) and 2x faster than the iPhone 16 Pro (A18 Pro).
Speaking of performance the iPhone 18 Pro will continue to have the all-day battery life found in the iPhone 17 Pro Max even though it is smaller than last year's. The iPhone 18 Pro has 36 hours of video playback while the 18 Pro Max has a massive 45 hours of video playback. The Pro has 24 hours per charge while the Pro Max has 30 hours per charge.
The phone will also be able to charge to 50% in 15 minutes. Apple Claims that 5 minutes of charging will last you 6 hours of video playback.
The iPhone 18 Pro will feature a 48 MP fusion main camera with variable aperture. The iPhone will also feature Timelapse in 4K, it will also include an upgrade AudioMix algorithm with support for music.
The phone also features Pro controls, giving you more manual controls over the look of your photos. You'll be able to manually adjust aperture, white balance, change shutter speed. Pro controls will also be available in video. It will also feature a smart focus tracking that makes use of an on-device AI to make sure your subject always stays in frame.
The iPhone will also feature, new photographic styles. You will now be able to edit the texture and grain control of your images.
The iPhone 18 will also be supporting the Synth ID standard to help identify images that were generated or edited using AI.
The iPhone 18 Pro will also feature a new Dynamic Island that is smaller but more useful than the previous one. You can now have up to three live activities at once on the Dynamic Island.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Max will be powered by the new Apple A20 Pro. The chip will be built on the 2 nanometer technology.
The chip features a 2-core CPU with 2 new "super cores" which Apple claims in 20% faster, the chip will also feature 4 new efficiency cores and 7 neural accelerators "that power low-latency, on-device AI workloads" that are 2x faster in FP8 performance and will feature 2 neural engines for a total of 32 cores.
Apple claims the A20 Pro has significanly advanced GPU for improved AI image generation. The chip also features a new 7-core GPU with up to 40% faster graphics performance.
The CPU, GPU and Neural Engine improvements allow for a 50% increase in memory bandwidth.
The phones come with new matching phone cases and cross-body straps.
