Let’s Go to the Moon! – Music Monday – July 27, 2026
Have you ever listened to a video game music track before you played the game and absolutely fell in love with it? In this week's Music Monday, Andy talks about a track that did that for him, inside a difficult NES game!
o this Music Monday is actually for a song I heard way before I ever played the game. When I was in college, I heard a remix of a song that just kind of hit me. The song was an orchestrated remix and at the time it was a favorite hobby of mine to look up people’s orchestrated remixes of video game music (It was around the same time I was obsessed with Video Games Live)
The song in question is the Moon Theme from Ducktales (NES). The remix I found (I’m pretty sure it’s this one) is below:
There’s something to be said about the arpeggiated movement in the song that just keeps repeating and gives that feeling of moving forward. It is similar to how sometimes you hear bass lines or percussion make it sound like a train is going by.
I should probably also post the original Moon Theme (but also here’s the Remastered version as well, because I love that version too:
When I heard this song for the first time, it felt like I was in space. Again remember that I haven’t played the game but only saw that it was for the “Moon” in a game I had never played. The melody is a wonderful little lilt that’s easy to remember (I’m sorry if it’s an earworm for you after reading this) and it’s compact enough that it doesn’t feel too repetitive.
ALSO it’s one of the very few songs that made it into official media and I might have freaked out when I heard this:
If you want to get my attention, bring me something in space. Something has always intrigued me about the moon, the stars, and other parts of space. It’s probably due to growing up watching Star Wars/Star Trek/Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and looking up on clear nights and watching the stars.
Have you ever fell in love with a video game track before playing the game it’s from? Let me know in the comments or let’s talk about it on Discord!
Oh also as a bonus listen to this amazing remix by Tee Lopes (the guy who did the music for Sonic Mania and others) of the Moon Theme!
