Exam cheating costs 66 CUNIMA students

A routine end-of-semester examinations has ended in a major setback for dozens of students at the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA), with disciplinary action set to alter the academic path of many of them.

The sanctions range from repeating a semester to expulsion, following investigations into alleged examination misconduct during Semester One examinations.

According to a notice signed by University Registrar Dr Gregory Kunyenje, the university received 66 reports of examination misconduct from various invigilation teams, prompting disciplinary hearings for all affected students.

Following the hearings, 57 students were ordered to repeat the semester, five were expelled from the university, while four were allowed to sit for deferred examinations.

The affected students include 44 males and 22 females.

CUNIMA said details of the individual cases and disciplinary decisions can be obtained from the respective faculties and departments.
