Men urged to strengthen families through prayer

Catholic men have been challenged to put prayer at the center of their lives, with a call to lead their families through faith, generosity and responsible living as society faces growing moral and economic pressures.

The appeal came during the launch of the Catholic Men Association (CMA) in the Diocese of Mzuzu on Saturday, where leaders said strong families and communities begin with men who are committed to God and actively support the Church’s mission.

Rumphi Central Member of Parliament Matthews Mtumbuka, who was the guest of honour, urged Catholic men to set aside time every day to pray for themselves, their families and the nation.

“I encourage all Catholic men to dedicate time to prayer every day. Let us pray for our families, ourselves and our country because prayer remains the foundation of a strong Christian life,” said Mtumbuka.

He said prayer helps build stronger families and communities, adding that men should lead by example in both their spiritual and everyday lives.

Mtumbuka also challenged every parish in the Diocese of Mzuzu to establish a men’s choir, saying the initiative would help attract more members into the association and strengthen its presence across the diocese.

He further encouraged Catholic men to support the Church through generosity.

“For the Church to continue growing, men must develop a spirit of giving. The Bible teaches that the hand that gives is the one that is blessed,” he said.

The legislator also encouraged men to venture into business to supplement their incomes, observing that salaries alone are often not enough to meet the needs of their families.

Speaking during the launch, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mzuzu Reverend Father John Katumbi described the formation of the Catholic Men Association as a significant milestone for the diocese.

Katumbi said the association would help men become more committed to the mission of the Church while strengthening their roles as responsible husbands, fathers and community leaders.

Held under the theme, “Catholic Men as Pillars of the Church, Family and Society,” the event brought together Catholic men from parishes across the Diocese of Mzuzu to reflect on their responsibilities in the Church, their families and society.
