Vice President’s Office dismisses rumours, reaffirms support for Presidency

The Office of the Vice President has dismissed claims linking Vice President Jane Ansah to alleged efforts to undermine the Presidency, urging Malawians to disregard the speculation and reaffirming her commitment to constitutional order and national unity.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Office said it does not support or associate itself with any statements, opinions or actions that seek to weaken the Presidency or disrupt its unity.

“The Office of the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi wishes to inform the general public that it does not associate itself with any statements, opinions, or actions that seek to undermine the Presidency or the unity of the Presidency,” reads part of the statement.

The clarification follows public debate sparked by remarks attributed to activist Sylvester Namiwa, who allegedly suggested that Vice President Ansah could become Malawi’s President within the next two months.

According to the statement, the Vice President remains committed to the Constitution and rejects any position that contradicts the country’s constitutional framework.

The Office said Ansah believes in unity, constitutionalism and respect for the Presidency, and remains dedicated to supporting the President while fulfilling her constitutional responsibilities.

It further urged the public to ignore claims suggesting that the Vice President endorses or is connected to statements aimed at undermining the Presidency, stressing that her focus remains on serving Malawians in line with the Constitution.
