MERA cuts diesel price

People and companies with diesel-powered vehicles and other machines woke up smiling on Saturday after the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) slashed the pump price of diesel.

This is according to a statement signed by MERA Chief Executive Officer Lucas Kondowe.

Diesel will now sell at K5,863 per litre, down from K6,306 per litre.

The reduction represents a 7.02 percent decrease. However, MERA has maintained the price of petrol at K5,619 per litre.

The price of kerosene has also been reduced by 8 percent, from K4,771 to K4,389 per litre.

MERA said the adjustments follow a review of fuel import costs, insurance, taxes and other pricing components for July 2026.

The new prices take effect on 1 August 2026.
