Four arrested over Kasungu robberies

Police in Kasungu have arrested four suspects following an intelligence-led investigation into a recent series of robbery and breaking cases in the district.

According to Kasungu Police Station deputy public relations officer Sergeant Miracle Hauli, the suspects have been identified as Chisomo Nyasulu, 26, Brown Harrison, 23, Biton Banda, 31, and Fatsani Nyasulu, 22.

Hauli said the arrests followed intelligence gathering by detectives investigating the recent rise in robbery and breaking incidents in the district.

Police said preliminary investigations linked the suspects to separate offences committed between July 28 and July 30.

Hauli said Harrison and Chisomo Nyasulu admitted during questioning that on July 28, 2026, they attacked Potiphar Nyirenda and stole his car key.

She added that on July 29, Chisomo Nyasulu and two other suspects allegedly attacked another victim and stole a Samsung mobile phone.

Police also allege that during the night of July 29 and 30, Fatsani Nyasulu and Biton Banda broke into a shop and stole assorted items.

Meanwhile, Hauli said police recovered the stolen car key, the Samsung mobile phone, and the assorted items during the investigation.

According to police, Chisomo Nyasulu comes from Nkombezi Village under Traditional Authority Mwankhunikira in Rumphi District, while Harrison is from Cheyeretsa Village under Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu District.

Fatsani Nyasulu is from Suza Village under Traditional Authority Mwase, while Banda hails from Mwimba Village under Traditional Authority Lukwa, both in Kasungu District.

Police said investigations into the cases are continuing.
