resident Peter Mutharika has expressed deep sorrow following the sudden death of Malawi’s celebrated media practitioner, Brian Banda.

State House announced in a statement on Saturday, 8 August 2026 that President Mutharika and the First Lady had received with sadness the news of Mr. Banda’s sudden passing.

President Mutharika remembered the late MBC Director General as a patriot whose dedication to public service and broadcasting left a lasting impact across the country.

“Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and the entire media fraternity during this incredibly difficult time,” reads part of the statement.

At the time of his death, he served as Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

Funeral arrangements announced by MBC indicate that his remains will be taken from Mthunzi Mortuary on Sunday, 9 August 2026 for a church service at Word of Faith Church in Chilobwe, Blantyre.

The body will be laid to rest on Monday, 10 August 2026 at M’banda Village, Chileka, Blantyre.

Members of the media fraternity and government officials have paid tribute to Mr. Banda for his service to broadcasting in Malawi.
