MUBAS student appeals for tuition support
A third-year MUBAS student who sold his personal computer to raise tuition fees is appealing for K402,000 to complete his registration and continue his studies.

Bornwell Pual, a third-year Business Studies and Computer Science student at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), is under pressure with nowhere to get the balance for his tuition fees after failing to secure a loan from the Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board this year.
Speaking to Malawi24, he said that during the past two academic years he had been receiving tuition support from the Loans Board.
What was once a story of hope has now turned into a struggle as he worries about where to get money to clear his fees balance for this year.
After failing to register with the Loans Board, Pual said he decided to sell his personal computer to raise tuition fees for the first semester.
From the sale, he managed to pay only K250,000 and is left with a deficit of K402,000 according to the generic fees structure before the tuition hike.
He said he has been facing a lot of challenges during the first semester since selling his computer, including difficulties with writing assignments and reading.
“Basically, in terms of reading and assignments it becomes a problem because using a cell phone is hard,” he said.
Pual said his parents rely on farming and cannot afford to cover all the necessities he needs to sustain his academic life.
With the registration window set to open soon, Pual is appealing to well-wishers to assist him in paying the remaining fees balance of K402,000.
He added that he would be grateful if someone could buy him a new laptop to ease his education struggles.
