History cashes in: NBS hands Scorchers K245 million
NBS Bank has pledged K245 million to the Scorchers for the historical performance at WAFCON after progressing to the finals when they outclassed Algeria 3-1
istory has paid off for Malawi’s Scorchers, with NBS Bank announcing a K245 million reward following the team’s historic qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The reward will go to the 48-member delegation comprising players, the technical team, and support staff, with NBS Bank saying each member will have the money credited directly to their bank account.
According to the bank, each participating player will receive K7 million in recognition of the team’s achievement in securing Malawi a place at the global tournament.
NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Temwani Simwaka said the Scorchers have demonstrated courage, resilience, and an unwavering determination to succeed.
“This K245 million reward is our way of saying: you have made history, you have made Malawi proud, and NBS Bank stands with you as you prepare for the world stage,” Simwaka said.
He said the bank will also support the team with financial literacy and wealth management solutions to help members protect, manage, and grow their earnings.
The reward builds on NBS Bank’s involvement in football development through its work with the Football Association of Malawi, including sponsorship of the National Division League Season 2 and the Charity Shield.
The bank’s parent company, NICO Group, also supports Ascent Academy, a football development programme, with at least five of its players currently part of the Scorchers squad.
NBS Bank said the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting Malawian football and recognising achievements that unite and inspire the country as the Scorchers prepare to represent Malawi on the world stage.
