chance to work abroad is giving young people in Kasungu fresh hope, as efforts gather pace to connect them with skilled job opportunities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The initiative, championed by Kasungu Central Member of Parliament Chikondi Kampachike Chisale, is bringing youths together in groups as they prepare to pursue opportunities beyond Malawi’s borders.
The initiative, called Youth Work Opportunity Connect, will connect eligible youths with Edu and Work Connect Limited, a UAE-based company offering opportunities in trades such as construction and other areas.
Chisale said the initiative is one of the ways of helping young people become economically independent.
He said this when he met some of the participating youths in the area of Traditional Authority Suza in the district.
Chisale also said he would ensure that more eligible young people across all 10 areas in his constituency benefited from the opportunities.
Edu and Work Connect Limited chief executive Chimango Mwandira said he is hopeful that the programme will enable the youths to acquire various skills and develop their businesses during its five-year period.
Mwandira said the skills gained through the programme will help the young people improve their economic opportunities.
One of the participating youths, Linda Chimpopi, said the initiative will help reduce unemployment and bad behaviour among young people in the area.
The programme will continue to focus on linking young people with skills and employment opportunities, with Chisale saying he wants eligible youths from across the constituency to benefit.
