Entwan breaks silence after arrest

Fashion designer and socialite Christian Ndovi, popularly known as Entwan, has broken his silence following his arrest in Lilongwe over allegations of illegal firearms dealing.

He has since been dubbed Malawi’s ‘Merchant of Death’, drawing comparison with notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, famously given the same nickname over his international arms-trafficking activities. The scale and nature of the allegations against Ndovi are, however, exponentially different.

In a cryptic Facebook post on Wednesday, Entwan simply wrote: “ma set up”, apparently suggesting he believes his arrest or the allegations against him were a set-up.

He did not elaborate on the claim or identify who he believes may have set him up. Entwan was arrested on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following an intelligence-led police operation in Area 15, Lilongwe.

Police allege that the 31-year-old was importing, possessing and dealing in firearms without the required permits.

Entwan, a well-known figure in Malawi’s fashion and entertainment circles, is expected to appear before court to answer charges relating to unlawful importation, possession and dealing in firearms.
