eremiah Chihana has secured a reprieve in his fight to retain his position at the Blantyre Water Board (BWB).
The development follows an injunction obtained by Chihana at the High Court, paving the way for his return to the helm of the water utility.
In a letter seen by MIJ Online, BWB Director of Human Resources Lawrence Kadziche says the board has lifted Chihana’s suspension in compliance with the court order.
The letter further states that all conditions and restrictions previously communicated to Chihana in relation to his suspension have also been lifted.
Chihana had been suspended from his position over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power.
The allegations against him included claims that he represented to some parties that the BWB Board had approved financing for certain projects when, according to the board, no such approval had been given.
He was also accused of securing an overdraft facility of K500 million from First Capital Bank without obtaining approval from the BWB Board.
The latest development means Chihana will resume his duties as Chief Executive Officer while the matter before the High Court proceeds.
