HRDC, HRCC, CAMA among non-compliant NGOs

HRDC, HRCC and CAMA are among 330 NGOs facing scrutiny over compliance with regulatory requirements.

The organizations have been listed by the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA) as non-compliant with mandatory reporting requirements.

According to a public notice issued by NGORA, the authority expects registered NGOs to submit mandatory reports in line with the NGO Reporting Regulations.

NGORA says 1,060 registered NGOs were expected to submit the required reports, but 330 organisations failed to comply.

The authority says it will take appropriate legally binding measures against organizations that have not complied with the reporting requirements.

Among the organizations named on the list are HRDC, HRCC and CAMA, which are some of the more prominent civil society organizations operating in Malawi.

HRDC is listed under registration number NGO/L/24/140, while HRCC appears under NGO/L/13/036. CAMA is listed under registration number NGO/L/13/068.

The notice does not provide individual reasons for why the three organizations, or any of the other 327 NGOs, failed to meet the reporting requirements.

It also does not state that the organizations have been deregistered or suspended, but warns that NGORA will take legally binding action against the listed non-compliant organizations.

The list includes organizations working in areas such as human rights, health, education, governance, women’s rights, environmental protection and consumer advocacy.
