Boy rescued from alleged sale plot
Two men in Mangochi have been arrested for abducting and attempting to sale a child
n 11-year-old boy narrowly escaped being sold after two young men allegedly lured him away, hid him and started looking for a buyer in Monkey Bay.
The suspects, identified as Exvin Nangwale, 21, and Patrick Saphika, 20, were arrested on September 12 following a tip-off from a well-wisher who had received information about the alleged plot.
Monkey Bay Police spokesperson Sergeant Kondwani James said the informant had received information that the suspects had hidden the boy and were looking for a potential buyer.
Police moved in and arrested the two men before rescuing the child.
According to James, the suspects admitted luring the boy with a promise of money before using him as a trap.
The two were also found in possession of knives during the arrest.
Nangwale, of Kaiche Village, and Saphika, of Dickson Village, are both from Traditional Authority Namkumba in Mangochi District.
Police have charged the suspects with pledging a child as security, contrary to Section 82(a) of the Child Care, Protection and Justice Act.
Meanwhile, Police says investigation on the matter are continuing.
