NEW
- Timeline: option to open at the newest posts on a cold launch (Settings → Timeline → Load Top of Feed on Cold App Launch). Off by default, synced with iCloud.
- Mac: Settings → Links & Integrations → Open External Links In... picks Default Browser, Safari, Chrome, Firefox and more, or In Skyscraper, which opens the page in the column you tapped it in. ⌘-click still opens a browser behind the app.
- Settings: option to hide the "Your Last Week" banner.
- Composer: @-mention suggestions rank people you follow first, and a banner shows when you're writing a Direct Message.
- Shortcuts and Siri: App Intents now run in an extension, so they no longer launch the Mac app.
- Mastodon: the composer uses your server's alt text limit.
IMPROVED
- Notifications: action text uses your accent color, with the type icon on the avatar's corner.
- Settings: with Unified on, picking an account shows its settings instead of switching.
- Unified: older Bluesky posts load 100 at a time.
- Mac: Reader articles are lighter on big pages, timeline headers line up with the avatar, and Mastodon mentions and DMs open from Notifications.
- Mac: uploading photos no longer renders them at double size, which could use huge amounts of memory.
- Reader: Tags with nothing unread are hidden when Unread Only is on.
- Browser hand-off encodes links correctly for Firefox, Brave and Opera.
- Mastodon: link quotes resolve with several accounts signed in, and a rate-limited fetch keeps your hashtags and lists.
- Add links to your Bluesky profile!
FIXED
- Typing a bare Mastodon username looks it up instead of failing.
- Hashtags starting a line are no longer Markdown headings, and links drop trailing punctuation.
- Code blocks, mixed image order, "1000.0K" counts, Chinese script names, searches with "+", and two-digit feed years now display correctly.
- App-password sign-in ignores a leading @ and spaces, accepts "Https://", and defaults to bsky.social.
- Push: tapped pushes open as their recipient; replies use the parent's thread root; mutes and blocks apply to the receiving account.
- Widgets pinned to an account open that account's screens.
- Chats close when you switch accounts, only one-to-one chats offer Delete and Block, and Mark All as Read on Mac leaves message requests alone.
- Late results from a previous account (chats, notifications, profiles, search, moderation, trending) no longer appear after switching.
- Likes, reposts, mutes, reports, threads, followers and list actions on another account's row use that row's account.
- Signing out or switching mid-refresh can no longer overwrite a new session or sign as the wrong account.
- Composer: closing a mention-only reply skips the draft prompt, kept photos survive picking more, and a server draft no longer deletes your open local draft.
- Threadgate and postgate settings save for the right account and retry once.
- Unsubscribed feeds no longer reappear after iCloud sync, and new feeds aren't dropped.
- Reader: Mark All as Read marks are kept, and NewsBlur honours the cutoff.
- Timestamps follow time zone changes, and the Year recap includes December 31.
- Mastodon: signing out clears its push badge, and erased filter keywords are deleted.
- A number of additional fixes I couldn't list here due to space constraints!
Don't worry about 1.8.1 and 1.8.2. They were small hotfixes for 1.8!
