NT. APARTMENT - DAY
Drew, (30), hunches over his desk staring at a blank screen, wondering if words will just miraculously appear.
"I really should be writing more, but I don't have a good script idea right now."
He closes the document.
"What if I made a blog instead? I've been meaning to start one for a while, and maybe it'll give me a creative boost!"
Drew goes online, buys a domain name, and researches blogging platforms. After settling on one, he figures out how to set up a custom domain, adjusts the layout, and clicks "New Post".
Beat.
He stares at a blanks screen.
"Well what am I supposed to blog about?"
Introduction
Hello, and welcome to The Written Werd!
First thing's first, an introduction. My name is Drew Gibson, I'm a writer in Los Angeles. I work in the entertainment industry, although not as a TV (or film) writer (yet). Despite being online for a long time, I haven't really carved out a place for myself on the internet, so I figured now is the right time to start a blog!
In short, I wanted a little site to fill with my thoughts, dreams, the occasional dump of film photos, and yes, words. This is my first blog, so as of now I don't have any set plans for how often I'll be posting yet.
The inspiration for this blog is a couple of things: One, I wanted to stake out a space with my own domain name. And two, my writing habits right now are less than ideal. With this blog, I hope to develop a more consistent writing habit, as well as focus on writing something other than scripts, so I can become a more well rounded writer.
Why "The Written Werd"?
So the name of the blog comes from my own name spelled backwards, and I'm a writer, so it seemed like an obvious name for a blog!
...Plus it was cheaper to buy a domain for that compared to using my first and last name, which is well outside my current budget.
I considered naming the blog "Werdsmith" as I have done a little blacksmithing (possibly a topic for a future post), but unfortunately that domain name was already taken by an iOS writing app (though I can't speak to the quality of it, being an android user).

I'm looking forward to finding some fun topics to write and share with the world! I'll try and get a new post up soon. The next post will likely be about writing tools! I have far too many pens, so why not write about them (and keyboards, and notebooks, and screenwriting software).
While I don't want this blog to turn into a portfolio site, I probably at some point will post short excerpts of scripts I'm working on, so be on the look out for those! For now I'll say thank you for reading my first post, and I hope you all enjoy my journey into blogging!
