I got it thinking “hey, I need to practice French and this seems like a quick and light read”. But in reality, Lili Boisvert takes the reader through a difficult journey from beginning to end.
For starters, her alter-ego is not a nice character and that is great. She is annoying, flawed, human. She makes very clear mistakes.
Ludwig is an asshole.
I love books where I have to stop and analyze my feelings. Did I like this book? I couldn’t answer that question easily right after having finished it. It was clearly a memorable book, though.
As a man, I am sure I can’t fully appreciate the weight of the experiences Boisvert shared with us. The book makes it more than clear that there must have been a real-life Ludwig at some point.
And I wanna punch him in the face so bad.
Anyway, if you’re looking for a quick read in French, I recommend it. If you’re looking for a light read, maybe not this one.
