Feeding(back) into the Meta Ecosystem
Everybody is staring at the exit
ecent rumblings of outraged users pertain to the announcement of Meta AI's intention to crawl on websites associated with business accounts. This is a huge blow to accounts that are actively resistant towards generative AI.
I have been engaging more in indie and/or local literary magazines and the frustration is palpable. Instagram remains the last bastion of my Meta ecosystem dependence. Much of the literary space I entrenched here and it's difficult to simply leave.
Regulation and legislation has been woefully slow regarding new technology like this. Luckily, it appears that at least for Australians, we have the ability to opt-out. My optional response wasn't really about giving them constructive feedback. It was about the idea that consent shouldn't require a justification.
I remember talking to a government bureaucrat about these feedback forms and they told me this was a procedural task. Faithfully engaging with community concerns wasn't really a priority — it was just another task on their checklist. My cynicism is more or less the same here.
I do believe rage is the only constructive response these corporate entities can receive. They cannot parse anger. The can certainly try to PR their way into making it socially acceptable. I'm sure they are trying to deploy elaborate psychological marketing to trick people into embracing generative AI. Or we could go full angry mob and watch them squirm.
Please tell us how this processing impacts you.
(Optional)
People have should have the right to opt-out for any reason under the sun. I don't want my words or my face to be Frankensteins that you will inevitably unleash onto the internet to be the middlemen of existence and thought.
