Mullvads andre delägare och stödet till Örebropartiet. Mullvad VPN AB är ett företag som levererar VPN-lösningar och erbjuder en säker webbläsare. Företaget har två delägare, Daniel Berntsson och Fredrik Strömberg. Företaget blev nyligen omskrivet i Flamman och kritiserat på många sociala medier för att Berntsson skänkt 5 miljoner till det rasistiska Örebropartiet. Strömberg har inte medverkat i media men har på sajten Hacker News skrivit följande där han markerar avstånd från Berntssons donation och påpekar att det inte är en donation från företaget:

Mullvad has two owners, founders, and CEOs – Daniel Berntsson, and me, Fredrik Strömberg. All posts I’ve seen yesterday and today, including the newspaper articles, talk about Mullvad as if Daniel is the single owner, founder and CEO. It should be obvious that Daniel’s private donation to a political party is not part of Mullvad’s values or mission.

Mullvad is a political company. We fight for freedom of speech, freedom of information and the right to privacy. These are firmly held values of the founders of Mullvad.

Mullvad protects the right for people to express things we don’t agree with. We protect the right of everyone to access views we don’t agree with.

We also live these values by being tolerant in our daily work. Everyone is welcome to collaborate with Mullvad if they share these narrow core values. As employees, contractors, customers, suppliers, lobbyists, campaign partners or whatever it might be. No matter what their other opinions are and no matter whether the founders or anyone else in Mullvad dislike them. The founders themselves fundamentally disagree on several important issues.

This is what allows us to advance our common causes. Being in a tolerant and intellectually open environment is also liberating and promotes truth seeking.

The more people do this, the better a place the world will be.

It should be obvious that Daniel’s private donation to a political party is not part of Mullvad’s values or mission, in the same way that someone’s opinions on animal rights, taxes or public healthcare policy isn’t.

That said, if you no longer want to be a Mullvad customer for philosophical reasons, we think it’s important to honor that. In that case, reach out to support.

Problematiskt

Problemet med detta är att Berntssons pengar kommer från Mullvads verksamhet. Indirekt går därför pengar som kunder betalar till Mullvad VPN AB till ett rasistiskt och fascistiskt parti. till et parti med värderingar som går stick i stäv med Mullvads målsättningar,. Örebropartiet är inte anhängare av alla människors lika rättigheter, yttrandefrihet och personlig integritet för alla. De vill bar låta sådan gälla en viss grupp av människor.

Berntsson stöder ett parti med motsatta uppfattningar i de frågor som är viktiga för företaget Mullvad. Det vållar tvivel på att han faktiskt stöder de värderingar som företaget uttrycker. Bernstsson är den ledande personen i företaget då Strömberg enligt vad han skriver på Hacker News har en allvarlig sjukdom som begränsar vad och hur mycket han kan göra:

Daniel is a bit older than me, but unfortunately I have a progressive illness for which I take low-grade chemo and biologics. Modern medicine is amazing, especially the newer biopharmaceuticals that have come out in recent years. I will likely have to scale down my involvement first though.

Daniel would lead our companies to the best of his ability, together with our amazing management teams. I trust him more or less completely with the corporation. I know he will represent my values where it matters the most. He’s very good at that. Last time we talked about this the feeling was mutual.

Berntsson är ordinarie styrelseledamot i företaget och dess moderbolag medan Strömberg är suppleant. Strömberg verkar inte heller bo i Sverige men företagets huvudkontor finns i Göteborg. Den som har mest makt i företaget är utan tvekan Berntsson. Strömberg motsätter sig också att en stiftelse skulle kunna äga bolaget och han motsätter sig också att göra bolaget till ett icke vinstutdelande bolag. Detta även om han samtidigt säger att han själv inte längre drivs av att tjäna pengar.
