A Careless Disregard

As I was having my tank filled with gas the other day, I noticed an older gentleman coming out of the convenience store on his way to his truck. In his left hand was a portable oxygen tank, and the attached hose led to the two plugs inserted in his nose. In his right hand was a carton of cigarettes. He popped the cigarettes into his glove compartment, climbed into the driver's seat, and off he drove.

I had to admire his careless disregard for his situation. About the best I could say about his situation was at lease he wasn't putting anyone else in danger. That is, unless he was trying to light a cigarette while the oxygen was on. Too often people have a careless disregard for others when they choose to take reckless actions. I see it most in the driving habits of certain people who treat the roadways as their own personal property, acting as if the other people on the road had no right to be there and were simply impeding their progress. It's a careless disregard for the safety of others.

Writ large, this is the behavior of oligarchs and billionaires. They have a careless disregard for anything but their own profit. The fewer of them we can manage to have, the better.
