This episode felt particularly moral panic-y, and I think it was maybe supposed to be a play on "Psycho," but it didn't really work for me. I liked Scully's conversation with the FBI counselor about losing trust in your own ability to act, but I'm worried her PTSD from the alien abduction will be used to take away her character's agency rather than making the character more nuanced. I like a good “X-Files” episode where there's nothing supernatural or otherworldly going on as much as the next guy, because when done right it can really spice up the season, but I think this episode would have done better with some sort of alien or monster at the episode's center, because without that and played straight as is, it was very weak.
