This was a really good series introduction - the world building comes across as so effortless, I immediately believed Astro City had a long, detailed superhero and villain history, with all the introduced elements just seeming to fit together seamlessly. I also really liked the sense of melancholy throughout the whole issue, it had an almost Alan Moore "For the Man Who Has Everything" feel to the whole thing, with the reveal that the series’ Superman analogy, Samaritan, dreams of being able to fly uninterrupted through the clouds really hitting the way it should; you just feel bad for the guy, even only having known him for the one issue.
