Once upon a time, there was a magical place where monsters and heroes would dwell, for good and Ill

oneshotting a story, just an exercise in using human brain for making up bullsht

hey all knew themselves to be dedicated for their own goals, which seemed to come as naturally as breathing, with no need to consider alternatives or long term consecuences.

Their instinct was pre-programmed to follow these instincts and use their available skills and powers to achieve them.

From time to time, the goddess of creation would bestow her blessings to the inhabitants, always prefering different races, kingdoms, caves or individuals with no obvious preference.

Over time, the inhabitants of the world became stronger and wiser, more capable to survive and, with the godess’ gifts, create ever greater kingdoms and towns. Monsters became stronger, animals were born with more usefulness to all other living things, and for the first time, greatly powerful beings appeared in all territories.

Soon after the first great powers appeared, the first heros appeared. These were people who had been hosted by the goddess of creation to run in the world and enjoy the fruits of combat, of growth beyond the wildest imagination. The original dwellers of the world would never be able to reach a fraction of their immense powers.

Not every hero fought for noble reasons, however. Some heroes would fight among themselves, for any and all reasons. They formed alliances, guilds, cliques and all sorts of relationships. These times, great wisdom was gifted to the world, by the goddess hand herself

By the power of the goddess, every creature, plant, animal and possibly even the landscape itself, understood their goddess intent, to bring the heros the best possible experience of fighting for this world, in whichever way they each hero found fit and gracefully permit most offences. The goddess in their fairness, made the heros divinely incapable of commiting major atrocities, making it imposible for them to exercise grave excesses.

For 1000 years, this order was maintained. The goddess would still bestow gifts, always fairly scattered all over the world, between the original dwellers who then called themselves Angelians, the heros who collectively called themselves Players, the monsters and all sorts of creatures, which the Players refered as Mobs.

The godess herself would watch and care for the growth of the world, always actively preventing the worst outcomes and aiding all sides to strive for a certain fairness in the world wide fighting.

One day, everyone woke up as if in a daze, suddenly the world felt strongly different. It took quite a long time to understand the magnitude of the changes. The first of which, the Players had vanished, and all their extraordinary weapons and powers, gone with them. Suddenly the angelians found themselves completely free to do as they each own individually pleased

their daze lasted for a long time, many people could not understand their place in the world and there were many misunderstandings, but except for the great powers, nobody was trully strong enough to dominate everyone else.

there was only one war, which lasted for barely some months, which was then ambushed by disorganized monsters which had become rapidly weaker than duriung the time of heroes. the godess herself did not cast down any gifts since that day.

the silence and the quietness first became fear, then despair. Many sacrifices were made to appease the godess, believing some that a sudden displeasure was the cause of the silence, others prefering to say the goddess was merely in deep slumber, othe few would instead fear that the goddess herself had been vanquished by the powers of evil, perhaps from a Player faction or perhaps by an Mob faction.

perhaps such knowledge of the motives and situations of the gods is simply outside of our understanding, the world’s state was still having the prayers unanswered, the strength diminished, the divine artifacts gone and the great powers each time fewer, more withdrawn, no longer thirsting for conquest or even luxuries.

With time, even the great powers dissappeared from the world, remaining hidden in far away inaccessible hideouts and avoiding as much contact with any creature as much as they were able to.

The first king was a strong man, nowhere as skilled in combat as a truly strong commoner, but with a very sharp mind and a capacity to guide people to improve their towns and villiages, and make as best use as they could manage of what the Vanishing left them with.

When there were three kings in the world, true commoners who gained the respect and obedience of their peoples, the first magic artifact appeared. It was not a gift from the godess, but rather a fortuitous encounter on a completely empty landscape, which was slowly being transformed by the nature growing slowly covering this white, dull, emptiness. And scattered lightening chaotically clearing the uncanny cleanliness into regular patches of sand, not unlike any sand elsewhere.

The only thing that was found in the exploration of this, incomplete perhaps, space, was a magic item, a magic book which contained few incantantions that no hero had been seen using.

The kings gathered to discuss this finding and, after long deliberations, wisdom prevailed and they each decided to attempt t jointly try to absorb the knowledge in the book at the same time.

By organizing a large search throught the entire world, the three kings raced to find the first commoner with the capacity to use magic. The search lasted 2 years and finally, one of them was able to have one of their followers use the first magic spell, which by casting it, caused the new magician to faint for two entire days, completely draining them from their energy to respond in any noticeable way, while remaining conscious only with great effort.

The second king brought another potential magic user, and after careful selection, decided to attempt the least powerfull spell, which successfully managed to summon a slight breeze which would not harm a particularly weak insect.

The third king attempted one with a moderate difficulty, ending up in the same result as the first magician, total exhaustion.

Once the kings found their limits to be substantially useless for any kind of troublesome upheaval, everyone laughed and rejoiced, they spared no expenses to celebrate their fortunate weakness, everyone feeling safe from a unknown time of strife over powers.

The general belief had changed to prefer peaceful existence instead of conquest and war. The people worked fairly and treated all creatures which could reciprocate fairness as a common existence.

Not all creatures were able to understand the desire for peace and few monsters prefered unreasonable violence, with comparable weakness and some exceptionally strong but not overtly so, vanquishable by a well prepared group of commoners.

Since the festivity, the mages kept training with diligence, and a handful of other similarly apt were found and they all were supported by their respective kingdoms, becoming protected individuals and given all sorts of benefits for the sake of their growing aptitude at using magic.

Many years after the start of the studies, when the first capable ones had grown into venerable wise magicians of long age, they were able to dominate an useful spell each, none of which was harmful but still capable of controlling different class of powers.

The first mage was able to bring upon the water, floating still in water and easily manipulable as if held by an invisible container. The magician skill became invaluable to commoners who whished to better understand the most efficient ways to use water for improving living conditions

the second mage was able to produce a long lasting breeze of moderate strength, still harmless, but enough to experiment with the wind in a most convenient matter. This too helped improve the understanding of the winds and things that improved by such endeavour

the third mage was able to use their magic in the most difficult manner, to heal grave wounds, and aid for the recovery of people with weak illnesses. The healer was the one who was probably most drained by the experimentation, aging faster and more dramatically than the others. Fortunately, the healing skill was able to permit this healer to live a longer life than the others, being alive to teach many more of the newly arrived magic apprentices.

the three mages frequented each other and traded as much knowledge as they were able to acquire, at all times aided by the kingdom and with the apprentices very focused on understanding as much as the first magicians. their invaluable sacrifice of their entire life in research was forever remembered, and they were called The Mothers of Magic, from to furtuite coincidence that all of the three had been women themselves. Later it was common to find as many male as female mage apprentices
