Mansions Dave and the tacit laws of talent poaching
o I talked about how; if you're a Stand Up Comedian; you ought to have decency and not lift jokes verbatim right, it's one thing to converge and come across an observation independently
Did you know the Empanada was independently introduced in Cuisine in at least four totally isolated instances
Even here; in Bangladesh; we have a dish that's identical to the Empanada and we had absolutely no idea what it was, we came up with it ourselves, it's called the Puli by the way and if you're wondering what it is it's identical to an Empanada, no really it's identical to the Empanada, down to the composition of the puff pastry and the spice blend of the filling
So my point is great ideas get implemented over and over again independent of eachother, similarly great jokes get written over and over again in isolation of one another and you'd have to be pretty Carlos Mencia to lift jokes verbatim
Also let's take a look at who Carlos Mencia lifted from over and over again - George Lopez, wow, that's your bar, Carlos
I'm pretty sure not even a Mexican would be excited by the sight of George Lopez
They'd just take one look at him and induct him into the boring looking men hall of fame and for Mexican People who do recognize him they'd just acknowledge that he's a Stand Up Comedian who just happened to be Mestizo Mexican and he's not actually a big deal
Guys I'm going to be honest with you I completely forgot what I was talking about
So there're ethics in certain industries right, you don't do certain things in certain industries right
I feel like that principle applies when you're poaching Card Girls from one Promotion to another, you just can't do that, that's unethical
Finding a Card Girl is not simple okay it's not a matter of going to the biggest modeling agency in town or finding out who's pictures are trending on social media, it doesn't work that way
At the same time you can't universally say talent poaching is bad, it's highly nuanced
Think about an Actor who just did a successful film and then gets invited to work with a Network they've never worked with before, isn't that, by definition, also talent poaching
I could go on but the point is talent poaching is very nuanced and you can't outright say that it's unethical but what you can do is create a hyper specific unwritten law
If you're running a Combat Sports Promotion you can't talent poach Card Girls from your competitors
