Using the word - Tiffin with confidence

his is something I've put up with for decades, always with indifference, thinking that's just how things are referred to in that culture, I'm no longer willing to put up with something that's just plain misinformed, I'm not going to dismiss it as something that's just done differently in another culture

Here's an excerpt from a conversation I had with Gemini

"Americans just say Lunch, which actually doesn't make any sense, that doesn't capture the nuance of a packed meal and everything that entails, the English Word - Tiffin, which originates from British People living in British India does capture that nuance and all it's idiosyncrasies

The Japanese Word - Bento also captures that nuance well"

Looking back at it just saying Lunch misses the point of a packed meal entirely, it also implies that it is only for Lunchtime, it also implies a certain kind of meal that's completely unbecoming of what actual packed meals are like

Tiffin is a great word

It comes from the British slang term - Tiffing which means to take a break in the middle of work and have something light and refreshing to drink

The word Tiffin may come from a slang term but that doesn't delegitimize it's status as a word, neither does the fact that it originates from British India

Obento is also a great word

It really pays respect to the entire concept and nuance of a packed meal, I think the Japanese Obento culture is not just outmatched but also unparalleled

I think this goes beyond the word - Tiffin

I always went out of my way to speak East Coast American English

I realize now that I don't want to use American Colloquial in each and every instance, especially when something is offputting to me

I needed a good foundation and now that's achieved; I'm going to pick and choose the Colloquial I'm actually using
