Mansions Dave and the novelty of female Major League Athletes

So this has gotten to the point where I feel like I need to address it, it has gotten out of hand

So a lot of people are acting like they're reporting on the WNBA but they're actually not, they're just reporting on Sophie Cunningham

This has spread beyond Bloggers, this agregious bias has now hit the Video Podcast Community, there are a lot of people who who have never interviewed anybody from the WNBA whatsoever who are now interviewing Sophie Cunningham

The bias has spread back into Sports with Sophie Cunningham given honorary Card Girl Status in the UFC

For those of you who don't have the context the UFC uncontestedly have the best Card Girls, Power Slap, also owned by Zuffa is also paying a premium and I'd give Zuffa Boxing that final podium place

It's actually ironic that Power Slap is being able to afford the premium on Card Girls and not Zuffa Boxing, I guess trajectory had a lot to do with it

Power Slap generically is highly clippable and shareable whereas the Boxing Industry in general has a lot of baggage thanks to the Mohammed Ali Act

So let's take a look at this from another angle, we're in the breaking dawn of Female Athletes

Yes we've had Female Athletes in Athletics and MMA but the buck stopped there

When you think about Male Athletes right out of the gates do you think about Athletics or Combat Sports?

What does the word - Athlete mean to you? what has that word become synonymous with?

I think when the context is Athletes people immediately think about the people who are snapping up houses in all the hot gated communities - Major League Athletes

Who are currently snapping up houses in all the hot gated communities? Well NBA Athletes are snapping them up, actually I misspoke, NBA Athletes are buying entire complexes within gated communities, that's how it is now, it used to be just the houses in the gated communities but now it's the complexes

Up next we have the NFL Athletes who are comfortably in the house to micro mansion zone, they can't afford entire bungalows or complexes but you can rest assured they have their pick of the houses

Corking this off, under Major League Athletes who can easily afford any house in any gated community are your MLB Athletes

Let's just say that NHL and MLS Athletes are well off and leave it at that, can they afford houses in gated communities? other than a few generational talents no but they're still well off

So we think about Major League Athletes right away if the context is just Athletes, so for a long time Women were not a part of that conversation

Like I said there's Women in Athletics and Women in MMA but I'm talking about an entirely different tax bracket

The closest Women have gotten to being on a Sports Pitch was as Cheerleaders and Cheerleader Culture is as strong as ever, some standout talents become household names

So what I'm getting at is there are actual Women's Leagues now, you have the WNBA and they've actually been at it for a while, in fact they were behind the whole #payuswhatyouoweus debacle, completely oblivious to the point that the entire WNBA makes less money than a single NBA Team that doesn't even make Post Season

So we also have the WMLS now, it's not as old and as established as the WNBA but it's old enough to have it's own cult heroes

So there are female Major League Athletes now

Can they afford the gated community houses we've been talking about? that's a hard no, they only make a fraction as their male counterparts

Regardless of that fact; there are Women Major League Athletes now, it's not a novelty anymore

Sophie Cunningham is the first female Major League Athlete to cross over to the mainstream and become culturally relevant

I think right now we're at a gawk phase with female Major League Athletes and Sophie Cunningham is low hanging fruit

Once that gawk phase is receding we'll have people talk about WNBA Athletes who aren't Sophie Cunningham and you'll know that gawk phase is over when WMLS Athletes will actually cross over to mainstream media
