Halloween Tales: Digimon
The 2020 one.
or all the rep Bandai gets about constantly pumping out an absurd number of games, each with a release every month, pilling up to what stores call the "Bandai Wall of Shame", it's almost perplexing to know that this is actually their only entry in this list to the best of my knowledge.
On the footsteps of Bandai itself, the Digimon franchise is no stranger with TCGs, with over a dozen different games across all sorts of gimmicks and tastes. So it wasn't much of a shock when Bandai announced a new TCG releasing on 2020.
Being the first of the new wave of Bandai games to be released (arguably the second if you start counting with the 2017 Dragon Ball Super) Digimon managed to also be the most unique in the batch, managing to dodge much of what we now call the "Bandai-slop Formula" by virtue of it's brilliant resource system.
It has now been eclipsed by the sheer success of it's younger sibling One Piece TCG, but maybe by virtue of being the first (second) it became the only Bandai game to enjoy it's very own Halloween-themed event.
The event ran for nearly two months and had a very peculiar deckbuilding restriction allowing only green and yellow decks to compete. There were promos attainable at the event, with one of them, Ryo Akiyama, being exclusive to the winner, and the other three given out as participation prizes.
Here they are:
- BT17-080 - Takato Matsuki
- ST17-10 - Henry Wong
- EX2-060 - Rika Nonaka
- EX2-062 - Ryo Akiyama
