What is P.E.T.? Parent Effectiveness Training is an eight-week online class that gives parents and carers a chance to learn and practice skills that give a foundation for a lifelong relationship with their children.

P.E.T. was developed by psychologist Thomas Gordon in 1962. It was the first national effectiveness program for parents. He later expanded to the program to include teachers (T.E.T., Teacher Effectiveness Training), workplace leaders (L.E.T., Leader Effectiveness Training), youth, and individuals.

The model we learn in P.E.T. applies to all human relationships and it's effective with children of all ages and abilities.

What you'll learn in a P.E.T. class:

• How to talk to children and others so that they will listen to you

• How to listen to children and others so that they feel genuinely understood
• A step-by-step method of resolving problems and conflicts with family, friends, and coworkers that no one loses and the problem stays solved
• ...and you'll learn a way to know which skills to apply in any given situation.

You'll learn how to let others "own" their own problems, take ownership when you are the owner of a problem, and find creative results when the problem is owned by multiple people.

Each class has between four and ten people and we all work together to practice the skills.

The class schedule is:

December 5th, 2026 - January 23rd, 2027
Saturdays, 8 am - 11 am MST

The course registration fee is $295, which includes the $50 materials fee. I'll mail the textbook and workbook to you before the course start date.

About me:

I first learned about P.E.T. in 2013, right before becoming a stepmom to two awesome kids. The class changed a lot in my life, and I walked away realizing that I'd never really learned how to communicate.

Ten years later, when considering a career change, I realized that the material was as valuable to me as ever, and I decided to become an Instructor with Gordon Training.
