False Sunflower
a change in strategy, a few signs, and my native wildflower garden finally delivered a summer's worth of False Sunflowers.
or years I have wanted a native wildflower garden. I tried, but it seemed that each year one of two things would happen: the grounds crew mistook the plants for weeds, or the rabbits and deer had a buffet on my young shoots.
I tried something new this time around. I amended the dry, compacted soil. I planted my native wildflower seeds at the right time. I planted natives that deer and rabbits do not like. I put out signs saying “No podar las plantas.” Then I waited.
The snow and rain came, then the sun, then new growth. The signs did the job this time. Things grew, and soon I was rewarded with yellow flowers, lots of them, False Sunflowers.
The flowers are getting ready to say goodbye until next year. But I’m happy. I got a chance to use my macro gear.
