US airstrikes resume in Iran after five-day pause

After more than five days of relative calm, the US launched a heavy two-hour wave of strikes on Iran overnight on July 30, hitting dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command centers and missile and drone facilities.

Iranian officials reported deaths and injuries from the attacks, while Jordan reported incoming missiles and Kuwait said an Iranian strike killed one person. Mediators said talks were still continuing, but the direct fighting has clearly resumed.

The strikes came just a day after the joint US-Saudi operation in Iraq, making the pause in fighting look effectively over and putting the diplomatic track under serious pressure.
