Trump turns the Iran war toward economic isolation
rump has announced a new campaign to isolate Iran’s economy, threatening “tremendous economic consequences” for any country whose banks, businesses, airports or government agencies provide Tehran with what he calls a financial lifeline.
He also named oil smuggling, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries and front companies as targets. The move broadens the conflict beyond the existing naval blockade and sanctions, putting Iran’s remaining trade network under direct pressure.
China is the biggest potential flashpoint because it is Iran’s largest trading partner and a major buyer of its oil. Trump did not name any country or explain exactly what measures will follow.
