The US and Iran are trading fire again

The US and Iran exchanged fire over the weekend for the first time in a month. On Sunday, August 30, US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island after saying Revolutionary Guard units were preparing rockets carrying sea mines for the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran answered with ballistic missiles aimed at US bases in Jordan, while the UAE said it intercepted an Iranian drone over its territorial waters. The US said the missiles were intercepted without significant impact. After weeks in which sanctions and economic pressure had largely replaced airstrikes, the conflict has moved back into open military escalation around the waterway.
