The Houthis have taken Mokha

Houthi forces have taken control of Mokha, a Yemeni Red Sea port city that had been held by government-aligned forces. It is their biggest territorial gain since Yemen’s 2022 truce.

Mokha is about 80 km from the Bab el-Mandeb, the gateway between the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. With shipping through Hormuz already badly disrupted, the capture gives the Iran-aligned group a much stronger position near another crucial maritime route.
