On my walk through Ogimachi Village in Shirakawago, Japan, I suddenly found myself facing a line-up of scarecrows.

eclared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, Shirakawagō is famous for its traditional thatched-roof farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old.
